It takes a lifetime and a marathon mentality to build character, to demonstrate pride in being Filipino, and to aim to become future leaders our nation deserves – whatever fields of endeavour we are engaged in.
Nearly twenty years ago, the country’s foremost human rights advocate and exemplary statesman, the late Senator Jose W. Diokno passed away. It was his widow, Nena Diokno, similarly courageous and outspoken who just a few weeks ago wrote memorable lines to remind the youth: “Do not be passive onlookers. Your job, like that of my generation that is about to pass, is to constantly improve upon what is shown and to never give up.”
If our generation may have failed the youth, this generation – yours – cannot afford to fail the next!
